J UllllSUi toward < DWAYNE MCLEMORE Sports Editor Just when you thought Trinity Johnson was out of the limelight, the spotlight shines on her again. The former three-time AD-American South Carolina pitcher was named to the U.S. Women's National Tfeam that will represent America July 7-13 at Superball *97 in Columbus, Ga., site of the 1996 Olympic softball competition. It's a great feeling knowing I got picked to compete," Johnson said from her home in Memphis, Tfenn. The 17-member team will feature nine members of the 1996 Olympic gold medal team. Superball '97 is a post-Olympic continuation of an event that began in 1995 as the pre-Olympic run-through prior to Softball's Olympic debut in 1996. Johnson admitted she feels a bit overwhelmed playing alongside the Olympians. She did, however, say she'd be up for the challenge. This year's field of teams includes six of the eight teams in the 1996 Olympic competition, including medal winners USA (gold), China (silver) and Australia (bronze). Other Olympic teams include Canada, Puerto Rico and Japan. They will be joined by teams from Colombia and New Zealand. "This is a great opportunity for Trinity to show her talents against international teams," USC softball head coach Joyce Compton said. "This is the first step in her dream to pitch in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia." Johnson said she hopes her ?i-: U.? "But the Olympics only come eveiy four years. And this time, they're in Sidney, Australia and it's the year 2000.1 just think it's going to be a great Olympics."
