Just when you thought Trinity
Johnson was out of the limelight, the
spotlight shines on her again.
The former three-time AD-American
South Carolina pitcher was named to
the U.S. Women's National Tfeam that
will represent America July 7-13 at
Superball *97 in Columbus, Ga., site
of the 1996 Olympic softball
competition.
It's a great feeling knowing I got
picked to compete," Johnson said from
her home in Memphis, Tfenn.
The 17-member team will feature
nine members of the 1996 Olympic
gold medal team. Superball '97 is a
post-Olympic continuation of an event
that began in 1995 as the pre-Olympic
run-through prior to Softball's Olympic
debut in 1996.
Johnson admitted she feels a bit
overwhelmed playing alongside the
Olympians. She did, however, say she'd
be up for the challenge.
This year's field of teams includes
six of the eight teams in the 1996
Olympic competition, including medal
winners USA (gold), China (silver)
and Australia (bronze). Other Olympic
teams include Canada, Puerto Rico
and Japan. They will be joined by
teams from Colombia and New
Zealand.
"This is a great opportunity for
Trinity to show her talents against
international teams," USC softball
head coach Joyce Compton said. "This
is the first step in her dream to pitch
in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney,
Australia."
Johnson said she hopes her

National Tfeam will help her achieve
that dream.
"It would be an honor to represent
the country in any event," Johnson
said. "But the Olympics only come
eveiy four years. And this time, they're
in Sidney, Australia and it's the year
2000.1 just think it's going to be a
great Olympics."
