But ever since they released Achtung Baby in 1991, U2 have been on a mission to see how far they can take their music without losing the essence of their earlier material. Pop continues the trend, and is one of the band's best albums since the late 1980s. This album is a culmination of everything that is great about U2. The 12 new songs are catchy and compelling and the album is simply 4 stunning. Pop is anything but the distorted dance party implied by the first single "Discotheque." Instead, the album doesn't deviate too far from U2's original sound.
