The Gamecocks outscored Charleston 46-16 in the three-game series, propelled by three home runs each from Ryan Bordenick and Mike Curry. Fridays game was a nail-biter to the end The Gamecocks had to rally from a 5-1 deficit in the third on a threerun homerun by third baseman Jay Carlos, making the score 5-4. In the next inning, Bordenick led off by ripping the ball down the third base line. After second baseman Ryan Szwejbka lined out to right, Etienne Hightower walked and Adam Everett struck out swinging. That brought sophomore Mike Curiy to the plate with two outs and Bordenick on third and Hightower, on second. Curry drew the count full, then laced a single into right field, scoring Bordenick and moving Hightower to third. With Carlos at the plate, Curry took off for second. Charleston catcher Scott Wease threw the ball to second and Hightower bolted for home plate. Second baseman Joey Foxhall cut off the throw to second and, trying to nail Hightower at the plate, threw the ball away to give the Gamecocks their first lead of the game, 6-5. Charleston took a 8-7 lead into the bottom of the seventh before USC first baseman Eric Stanton drew a leadoff walk. T1 1 -1 i. "I didn't know it was gone until I saw the umpire raise his hand," Bordenick said. Saturday started like a repeat of Friday's game as Charleston jumped ahead with four runs in the first and two in the third to give them a 6-2 lead. Everett led off the bottom of the third with a ground out to third base, but junior Derick Urquhart crushed Charleston pitcher Austin Alexander's mwtm) over the left-renter field wall, drawing the Gamecocks within three runs. Carlos was caught looking on a third strike, leaving the Gamecocks with two outs and nobody on base.
