The Gamecock baseball team
finished off a three-game sweep of
the College of Charleston with a 120
victory Sunday.
The Gamecocks outscored
Charleston 46-16 in the three-game
series, propelled by three home runs
each from Ryan Bordenick and Mike
Curry.
Fridays game was a nail-biter to
the end
The Gamecocks had to rally from
a 5-1 deficit in the third on a threerun
homerun by third baseman Jay
Carlos, making the score 5-4. In the
next inning, Bordenick led off by
ripping the ball down the third base
line. After second baseman Ryan
Szwejbka lined out to right, Etienne
Hightower walked and Adam Everett
struck out swinging.
That brought sophomore Mike
Curiy to the plate with two outs and
Bordenick on third and Hightower,
on second. Curry drew the count full,
then laced a single into right field,
scoring Bordenick and moving
Hightower to third.
With Carlos at the plate, Curry
took off for second. Charleston catcher
Scott Wease threw the ball to second
and Hightower bolted for home plate.
Second baseman Joey Foxhall cut
off the throw to second and, trying
to nail Hightower at the plate, threw
the ball away to give the Gamecocks
their first lead of the game, 6-5.
Charleston took a 8-7 lead into
the bottom of the seventh before USC
first baseman Eric Stanton drew a
leadoff walk.

"I was sitting on the fastball,"
Bordenick said. "I had just missed
a couple earlier, and I got a fastball
right down the middle."
Hie ball rocketed toward the rightcenter
field scoreboard, just clearing
the fence to give the Gamecocks the
deciding 9-8 lead.
"I didn't know it was gone until
I saw the umpire raise his hand,"
Bordenick said.
Saturday started like a repeat of
Friday's game as Charleston jumped
ahead with four runs in the first and
two in the third to give them a 6-2
lead.
Everett led off the bottom of the
third with a ground out to third base,
but junior Derick Urquhart crushed
Charleston pitcher Austin Alexander's

wall, drawing the Gamecocks within
three runs.
Carlos was caught looking on a
third strike, leaving the Gamecocks
with two outs and nobody on base.

throw to second. Stanton followed
with a single to left, scoring Bordenick
and moving Poe to second.
With the score 6-4, Curry came
to the plate with two outs and men
on first and second. He ran the count
to 3 balls, one strike, and then
rocketed a fastball by Alexander.

struck out six, not allowing a hit

Fogler also offered praise for
Gallman, who had what is
increasingly becoming a typical effort
with 11 points and a game-high 12

"Gallman continues to show,
athletically, he's the one guy we have
who can just flat out go get a

said.

lead, USC reeled off six straight,
punctuated by Watson's score on a
fast break. With the score tied at 30
and 32 seconds left in the first half
though, Florida forward Greg Stolt
hit a layup to give the Gators their

The Gamecocks and Gators

lead changes.
"We're glad to get that game

of question if we were going to come
out and play flat," Watson said. "We
didn't want to lose this game because
there was that talk about us having
