Now Adair wants to help students in those lost scholarships, through his vn business. When Adair set out to find an idea t a business to start, he wanted mething that would make money and - the same time help people. He decided 1 try a computer service that helps udents find money for college. "When I found out there's so much loney out there thatfs not claimed eveiy lar, I thought it would be a good idea," dair said. "The reason it's not being aimed is that people don't know about Adair started Family Computer ervices. Adair, who has worked at jveral insurance companies since he as graduated, said FCS is a "start of dream." He said, "This is something Fve been anting to do for a while." Adair said he chose this type of usiness because it will allow him to rork at home where he can be with iree-year-old twins and because Tve lways been interested in money and elping people with money." FCS provides students with a Mnputerized database search. "What my service does is help these *ople get in touch with other sources f aid and get them some additional andingior college," Adair said. Students complete a personal pplication which is entered into the omputer. The application includes [uestions about grades, hobbies, interests ftd outside activities. "It's a plan to help them stay organized so they can apply for the money and keep track of replies," Adair said. Also included in the package are an application request form letter and an appendix of additional scholarship sources. He said he spent about a year testing the program and decided to include additional application information so students would really use their lists. The service costs $49.95. Adair can be reached at 561-0039 at extension 3112. Adair said he has plans to expand his services to include job searches. "Hopefully by the first of the year, Fm going to have a program set up to help find people jobs anywhere in the United States," Adair said. "Tm hopefully going to have that up and running January of 1997." Unusual scholarships The following are some of the mnst unusual srholar ships in the Financial Aid for College Database. Wool Contest The National Make It Yourself With Wool Contest awards scholarships from $100 to $1,000 for crocheting accomplishments. Berry Pickers The Urann Foundation offers money to students whose parents are cranberry pickers or growers.
