After scoring 11 runs on 16 hits against the Georgia Bulldogs Friday, * USC couldn't muster much of anything / Saturday, and lost 7-2. Friday's game featured Gamecock ace, Jason Haynie on the mound and the senior didn't let anyone down. Going seven innings, he gave up one run and struck out five while picking up the win (6-3). Patrick Sexton pitched two perfect innings in relief. The offense was led by freshman first baseman Eric Stanton and catcher Brian Hucks. Stanton went 34 with two RBI. Hucks went 2-4, including a homerun, with four RBI. The Gamecocks did all their damage in three innings. They put up four runs in thfe third and fifth innings and scored three in the eighth. But Saturday's outing was a different story. The Gamecock's bats took the day off as USC was defeated by UGA 7-2. The Lady Gamecocks return to action Wednesday, April 17, as they head to Georgia for a 2:00 matchup. In men's action the Gamecocks dropped to 12-8 on the season with a 5-2 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats Friday. South Carolina started out the match winning the doubles point behind the play of senior Maxsy Jiminez and freshman Keith Brill, who won their match 8-5, and the combination of junior Jorge Esqueda and freshman Grzegorz Badurowicz as they claimed an 8-4 victory. Then the Gamecocks dropped to 12-9 on the season with a 6-1 loss to No. 16 Florida Sunday. Junior Jorge Esqueda won his eighth match in a row with a 6-1,62 victory over Brook Blain. With this win, Esqueda recorded his 30th victory of the season and improved his SEC record to 9-3. LACROSSE With an 11-10 victoiy over Emoiy Univeristy Sunday, the USC Lacrosse team won the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference Championship for the first time in USC history. The championship capped off a spectacular season for the USC Lacrosse Club. They finished 14-2 on the season, losing only to Illinios and Emory earlier in the season.
