Only USC President John Palms can start the process to revoke tenure, Montgomery said. "It reflects very badly on the law school," said Danno Farrington, a thirdyear law student and outgoing editor in chief of the USC Law Review. "Here they are toying to turn out ethical lawyers, and look at who we have on staff." The faculty handbook says losing a license could be grounds to revoke tenure if the license is needed for the faculty member to perform his or her job. USC spokeswoman Debra Allen said Palms "feels this is a grave and disturbing situation," but she and Chastain's lawyer, Desa Ballard, would not comment further. They said the school and Chastain were "involved in discussions" about what to do.
