The Gamecocks only scored 12 runs, while giving up 25. South Carolina played Northwestem on Friday and the Gamecocks put up three runs in the first inning. Ray Baksh hit his fourth home run of the season with two runners on base. Baksh was the only Carolina player to have more than one hit in the game. Northwestern quickly put three runs of their own on the board in the top of the second. Mike Stritch had three hits, including a homer for Northwestern. Northwestern as a team, had 16 hits and scored 13 runs all of which were earned. Brad Niedermaier earned his first win of the season for the Wildcats. He gave up five runs on five hits in eight innings of work. USC stalled Jim Stoops. Stoops lasted three innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits. J.J.
