Clemson's Tommy West and USC's
Brad Scott face similar situations with
clearly different approaches.
Scott, who won South Carolina's first
bowl game last season, is fearful heading
into spring drills. West, who led
Clemson to its second losing year since
1992, can't wait to begin.
The key word for us going into spring
practice is excitement," West said "We're
a year into our system. We understand
as coaches and as players what we do
good and what we didn't do good."
The Tigers, who went 5-6 last season,
begin learning that good stuff Mondav.
They'll nrartire frmr times earh

a week off for spring break. They'll conclude
drills with one more week of practice
and the annual Orange-White game

Scott said hell spend as much time
quashing expectations when drills

The Gamecocks went 7-5 a year ago,
including a 24-21 Carquest Bowl victory
? the team's first postseason win in
nine tries. But Scott knows there's much
to do before South Carolina competes
strongly in the SEC.
"This second year might be the tough

"We have to get into a drop-back
