Rich connected on four of 10 shots from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. Watson hit seven of his 13 attempts from the field and four of seven from the charity stripe. Watson's free throws came at a crucial time. He missed his first three shots from the line, but with 17 seconds left and Carolina holding a two-point lead, he nailed two to give his team the lead for good. "I took my time and shot the ball just like Fm taught in practice," Watson said. "When they fell, I was happy." South Carolina entered the contest shooting 41 percent from the field as a team. The Gamecocks also improved their free-throw shooting, hitting 18 of 26 against the Commodores. For the season, they are shooting 60 percent from the free-throw line. Rebounding was another key in the Gamecock win. USC out-rebounded Vanderbilt 35-30. Andy Bostick led the team with eight boards. Ryan Stack finished second with six. USC coach Eddie Fogler got big numbers from all his starters against the Commodores. Malik Russell and Pete Van Elswyk each finished with 11 points. Van Elswyk is averaging 4.4 points a game.
