Out of the total 1700 applicants, 440 were accepted with 85 percent South Carolina residents. Residents of the state are given preference; non-residents are held to higher standards of admission. An applicant cannot be considered without having taken the LSAT. The fee for the test is $74. An application can be submitted before taking this exam as long it is taken prior to the application deadline. Registration forms for this aptitude test are in the LSAT/LSDAS Registration and Information Book, available in room 137C at the the USC Law Center located on the comer of Main and Green streets. A candidate must register approximately five weeks in advance in order to avoid a late registration charge. The date of the exam should be noted by the candidate for law school application purposes. This exam is divided into five parts ? I.j.; l : ui oil tumiy tiutu leu&uimig swtion, a reading comprehension section, two logical reasoning sections and a writing sample. Each segment, except the essay which is allotted 30 minutes, is allotted 35 minutes. One of the first three multiple-choice sections mentioned is given additional time as an experimental section. The test taker is unaware which section is experimental, and this portion of the test does not apply towards the final score. All questions on the test are weighted evenly, but the essay is not graded. Scores on the test range can from 120 to 180. Prior to the test date, the prospective law school student should familiarize himself with the types of questions asked and the directions for each section. In order to complete the optimal number of questions in each part, the test taker must pace himself so as to not spend too much time on any one question.
