Murray, US From staff reports The USC men's and women's track and field teams dominated the Gamecock Invitational Saturday, breaking five school records. The men won nine events, while the women won seven. Junior All-American Brett Murray won the discuss with a toss of 194-11 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 1-4 in Boise, Idaho. Murray, a native of Spartanburg, broke both the meet and school record. While Carolina has 14 NCAA provisional qualifiers, Murray is the first automatic qualifier. He also placed fourth in the hammer with a throw of 186-11. Senior Ail-American Ron Willis won the hammer, breaking a meet record and tying the school record with a toss of 214-11, which bettered his provisional mark. Sophomore Frank Mensah, a provisional qualifier in the 110-meter high hurdles, won the race with a time of 14.35. He also won the 400meter hurdles with a time of 54.5. Sophomore Norman Greene, a three-year letter winner with the football team, placed second in the 110meter high hurdles with a time of 14.83. It was his debut race. Greene, a native of Sumter, was a national champion hurdler in high school and recently starting running track again. Junior Adrian Bonner won the 800meter race with a time of 1:53.9. Senior Chris Swartz placed third in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:55.5.
