As NFL playc realignment's Bowden ^/"^^Gridiron gripes an A good weekend of pro football sil just ended, and the playoff situa- as tion is getting clearer. This week, I'm going to review the first half ne of the season and talk about the T1 upcoming divisional realignment in N the league. gc If the playoffs started this \i weekend, the Redskins, Bears and e\ Saints would win the NFC divi- pi sional crowns. The Giants, Cow- tv boys and Lions would enter as sc NFC Wild Cards. In the AFC, the ar Bills, Oilers and Broncos would win their respective divisions. All A AFC Wild Cards would be from rc the AFC West (the Chiefs, Raiders e: and Seahawks). cl Thankfully, the season is not w over. The Niners, Falcons, Cardi- it nals, Browns, Jets and Steelers are (< all alive. However, the race for the T Wild Cards is so tight in the NFC ui that almost any loss will be fatal to the competitors' chances. ir Case in point: this weekend, the g 4-4 San Francisco 49ers play at the n 4-4 Atlanta Falcons. The loser is e: r*?al1v nut nf thf?. nlavnff nirhirp. at V + W? W- r J this point, barring miracles. But b watch'out, Falcons, rumor has it s Kirby Puckett and Jack Morris C were signed as free agents by the g Niners, and they certainly know how to burn Atlanta. h I was bored in class yesterday ^ (imagine that), and I whiled away n the time by figuring out how to ^ realign the NFL to 1. accommo- ^ Things to Thinl It is estimated tl adults holding ji functionally illit mi A PUG'S / \ IN FIVE POINTS mV Good times & Great food in 2 fc t\ DINf /uV Buy one entree at regular | I equal or lesser value FF > jfk Join Us For Dinn 799-1225 fa THRIFT STORE O INEXPENSIVE, *fijf&7V COSTUMES V y\ DON' T WAIT TIL ' L I HOURS : 2111 Greei MON-SAT: 10:30 - 6:30 Columbia, SUN: 1:00 - 5:00 4 )jfs near, : needed ,te two new expansion teams and foster better geographical rival3S. I tried to do this withoul eaking up classic NFL grudges switch many teams from one inference to the other. According Sports Illustrated, the Carolinas id St. Louis are the most likely tes for expansion teams, so I'm suming they get them. First, the Tampa Bay Buccals are sent to the AFC East len the Buffalo Bills go to the FC East. Buffalo-Miami is s >od rivalry, but a Bills-Giants riilry would soon develop into ar ren better one. Tampa Bay woulc ay its cross-state neighbor Miam /ice a year (and they don't de >rve to be in the NFC Centra lvway). The Colts would move from th( FC East to the Central, making 10m in the East for the Carolina cpansion team. Indianapolis i: loser to the Central teams any ay, and as a bonus it would reun e all three ex-NFL AFC team: Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Indy) he AFC West would b< tichanged. The NFC gets shuffled aroun< lore. Phoenix of the NFC Eas oes to the West. The Falcon love to the Central. The St. Loui xpansion team is started in th< /est. Realistically, Dallas shouli e in the Central and the Falcon hould be in the East, but th lowboys-Redskins rivalry is to ood to break up. This is just a suggestion. Th 1FL may decide to totally alte leir division and conference foi iat, so who knows. This is jui lie humble suggestion of an NF anatic. <. About... iaf 1.5 million Dbs are erate. eTs PCOfc ?
