Cockfest f By LINDA STURM Staff Writer In its 20th year of celebrating USC football, Cockfest 1990, the pre-game pep rally at Williams once aiauium, promises 10 uc uie best ever. Computer science senior and Cockfest Director Aubrey Hawes said the show will include comedian Henry Cho as Master of Ceremonies and comedian Paul Rodriguez. Sparky Woods and the team will be on hand with the USC cheerleaders, Carolina Alive and the Southern Belles. Cocky will be there, too. The finalists for the skit competition will perform as well. Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Epsilon will perform "I Dream of Carolina." Delta Delta Delta and Sigma Chi will perform "College on My Mind." Kappa Kappa Gamma will perform "Carolina on my MindGame" and Kappa Delta will per rorm Carolina ureamm . "The carnival is coming back again," Homecoming Carnival Chairwoman Mary Jeffer said. "In past years it has had a decline." The carnival will be held from . 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in front of the Russell House. This year 19 booths will be sponsored by various organizations such as Burney dormitory, McClintock dormitory and the Association of African-American Students. Some activities planned include a dunking booth, food sales and an art exhibit. All of the booths are judged for two $60 prizes in the Most Original and Best Overall categories. The booths will not be the only attractions at the carnival. Most of the carnival's activities will cost less than $1. The Homecoming 1990 Cookout will be Thursday from 4:30-7 p.m. on the Russell House Patio. "This year's cookout is more spirited than past years'," Cookout o?? cnairwunmu ousau rmc aaiu. The menu, sponsored by the Marriott food services, will include teriyaki chicken, steak, barbeque, ribs, corn on the cob, rice pilaf, broccoli, baked potatoes, rolls and the usual display of soft drinks. Prices start at $3.70 for the chicken and ribs and $3.90 for steak. Cash, USC meal plans and cash cards will be accepted. Students will not be served by the usual dining hall staff. This year's cookout will feature various deans, faculty and staff members serving the dishes. Also scheduled for the cookout is accoustic guitar player Kyle Davis. "The cookout is one of the special homecoming events in that it is relaxed, and it caters to every one's tastes," Price said. The dance will be held Wednesday after Cockfest until 1 a.m. in th& Russell House Ballroom. Students will be able to dance to various popular artists and to original music by the band Boomers. If the Boomers sound familiar, it's because they played at the 1989 Preview Dance. The Russell House Ballroom will be the rain location for the carnival and the cookout. Cockfest was founded in the Spring of 1970 by Ed Craig of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Craig wanted to create an event that would recognize his fraternity. Hawes agrees that putting on Cockfest is "a lot of fun and builds brotherhood." Cockfest is designed to provide family entertainment in the spirit of USC football. Admission is kept low, allowing the entire community the chance to attend. A goal of the first Cockfest committee was to encourage all fans to attend, especially if they were not able to attend the game. While fireworks have been a traditional part of the pep rally, one year Cockfest featured a laser show instead. Brewer said. The rally was rescheduled before the Notre Dame game. Throughout the 20-year history of the rally, Cockfest has been sponsored by student activity fees, the USC Athletic department, Miller Beer and IBM. This year's Cockfest is also being sponsored by the USC Athletic Department The 1990 Cockfest is planned for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Williams-Brice Stadium. Admission will be $2 for students, $3 for non-students and $7 for families with two parents and two children. Co-director and marketing senior Rob Clouse suggests that everyone arrive early so they won't miss the beginning of the show.
