SPORTS ttDDIECO? lilD nicro Women's golf team wins JMU tourney The USC women's golf team took advantage of the great playing weather at the James Madison University Invitational and finished in first place, 13 strokes ahead of second place Penn State. USC finished the tournament with team totals of 305, 297 and 314 for a total of 916. Sophomore Vikki Valentine paced the Lady Gamecocks to their first tournament win in over two years. Valentine fired impressive rounds of 77, 73 and 76 for a total of 226 to give her a second place finish, one shot off the lead. Valentine's second round 73 was her lowest round as a Lady Gamecock. Golfers finish 17th in Ga. tournament The USC men's golf team finished in 17th place at the Carpet Capitol Classic in Dalton, Ga. over the weekend. The Gamecocks played against an impressive field, with 15 of the 18 teams ranked in Golf Week's top 25. USC was led by senior Brett Quigley who posted rounds of 72, 72 and 81 for a total of 225. Lady Gamecocks go 1-3 for weekend The George Washington Lady Colonels easily defeated USC 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in volleyball action. USC fell 13-15, 5-15, 12-15 and ended their weekend trip 1-3. I Tammy Correll (37 assists) and Lora Myers (12 kills and 11 digs) led USC. The Lady Gamecocks finished 1-2 and took third place at the Maryland Tournament on Friday and Saturday. In the first match on Saturday, USC defeated Drexel University 3-1. The Lady Gamecocks were led by the trio of Tammy Correll (43 assists and 14 digs), Lora Myers (22 kills and 12 digs) and Caryn Case (19 kills and 26 digs). USC won the match by scores of 14-16, 15-10, 15-8 and 15-12. USC did not fare as well in their second match against Maryland, losing 3-1. Tammy Correll (49 assists) again led the Lady Gamecocks in the 15-12, 14-16, 15-8, 15-10 loss. USC opened the tournament los- r ing to Bradley 15-5, 15-9, 6-15 and 15-7. Lora Myers had a season-high 18 digs in the match.
