use chor to perforr By LAURA ANDREWS Staff Writer USC's popular Carolina Alive singers and dancers will present a varied program of pop, patriotic and Broadway tunes during its spring concert at 8 p.m. Friday at thp. Kncrpr Ppntpr fnr thp Arte The choreographed show offers a diverse mix of music ranging from Phantom of the Opera to a country-style medley entitled "Raise a Ruckus," which features a rousing clogging routine. Carolina Alive was founded 17 years ago by Richard Conant, a professor in USC's School of Music and the group's current director. The 40 member group is comprised mainly of non-music majors and has performed for countless universities, political and business functions as well as for dignitaries such as former Presidents Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon. i "The group has worked harder ; this year than ever before and is very excited about the spring per- ' fnrmanrp. Carolina Alive has had more than 30 engagements during the 1989-90 academic year and will be featured entertainers aboard the S.S. Majestic cruise ship this summer. On the way down to the cruise, the group will perform at Disney World. "The spring show is not just to listen to, there is lots to watch and a great variety of music and dancing, which adds a lot to the show," said Conant. "Performing in the Koger Center is so much better than anywhere ;lse we've ever performed," Conint said. He also added that Shealy worked very hard and has done a wonderful job with the ;horeographing.
