Milli Vanilli continued the tradition by winning Best New Artisl after performing a highlychoreographed, lip-synched version of "Girl You Know It's True." Linda Rondstadt and Aaron Neville won Pop Performance Due or Group for "Don't Know Much" after performing the song. Bette Midler followed the trend, winning Record of the Year foi "Wind Beneath My Wings" moments after receiving a standingovation for her performance of the song, which had already won Song of the Year, an award for songwriters. Billy Joel, after opening the show with "We Didn't Start the Fire," lost the Pop Vocal-Male category to Michael Bolton. The Fine Young Cannibals, after performing "She Drives Me Crazy," lost album of the year to Raitt. Fine Young Cannibals had a disappointing evening, also losing Pop Performance Group or Duo to Rondstadt and Neville and Record of the Year to Midler.
