"Overall, I'm pleased," Felton said. "We've got some people that can put the ball in the hole and mix it up inside and outside. That's the type of team we have io nave, a team mat s going to be well-balanced and have a lot of people involved in the offense." At Frank McGuire Arena Wednesday night, the white squad defeated the garnet 88-67 in front of a small, but enthusiastic crowd. Eric Sykes, the only senior on this year's team, scored 21 points to pace the white team. Felton has been pleased so far with the way Sykes is playing. "He's playing the type of basketball that I think we're going to be able to play this year," he said. "He can put a lot of pressure on a defense offensively. He can run the floor like a deer. He's doing everything. He's going to see some quality minutes this year." Junior forward Michael Glover also scored 21 points for the white squad, 17 of those coming in the second half. This season, the Gamecocks will run a more passing-oriented offense. Felton says it will take some time for the team to fully adapt to the new strategy. "It's difficult. . . ," Felton said. "I see some nice things developing out of it. It's harder to defend. Overall, by the middle of December, we should have this thing down pat and that's what I'm looking for." Barry Manning, the team captain, had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the white squad. Other double scorers were JoJo English with 16, Troy McKoy with 15, freshman Stefan Eggers with 14 points and Obrad Ignjatovic, who had 10. Felton admits that this team is young, with only one senior and two juniors and that there will be some breakdowns. "Overall, in the coachability and attitude, I can't be more pleased with the team working together and trying to do what we're asking them," Felton said. The Gamecocks open their season on Nov. 17 with an exhibition match against the Estonian National Team from the Soviet Union.
