" ? Joni Mitchell Oh, It's Christmas time, and I'm feeling so heavy. It all started back on Halloween when they began putting up Christmas decorations at the mall, and I was reminded of that old silver aluminum foil tree my Grannie used to have. It had one of those round, rotating lights that sat at its base and reflected on the tree, turning it all the primary colors and making us happy. We kids sat under that old tree, singing Christmas carols and beating each other's butts ? looking like leftover food being readied for refrigeration. I'm ready for Christmas and all that joy. I am. Thanksgiving was a disaster ? the family was low on money, so all 13 of us ended up having Turkey Pot Pies. We all bowed our heads in front of those cute little tin pots, though, and thanked the big man upstairs and at Stouffers. We were proud! Prouder than pilgrims. I realize there are people in the world worse off than I am, like my roommate Sam. He said they were so poor when he was growing up that they had to sacrifice the eldest son for a good holiday dinner. He said it was sad, but they were happy. He remembered Harold in '73 as the best-tasting of the family. He ate until he was stuffed. There are tons of reasons to be happy this season. Our saviour has made a new movie, Rattle and Hum. I love him, although I may risk blasphemy saying this, I didn't like all those close-ups of Bono's underarm in the movie. Sure, they're cute, real cute. But after the first hour, they took precedent over the music with a message. They began looking like road-kill opposums, and I started feeling guilt over my evil negative thoughts. I only ask to be forgiven for my underarm speculations. I always feel real heavy during the holidays, thinking a lot. I wonder about everything, like why are all the people who were once included in Joan Rivers' comedy monologue dying? First her husband, then Christina Onassis. Why is the world laced with such mysteries? , I think a lot about Joe Morrison. I'm not being negative toward my friend Joe, I love him. I've spent the whole year monitoring the growth of his sideburns, and I'm nothing more than pleased with his and their progress. When they join, I don't know what I'll do with myself. I don't even want to think about it. Thank you, Joe. It is the season of goodwill. I heard that the Last Temptation Of Christ was being brought back for a limited Christmas release, with families being admitted half-price on Christmas Eve. Is this goodwill or what? It warms my heart and makes me think twice about the future of this fated country. Yet, with every Christmas, there has to be a genuine Scrooge. I'm not saying that Janice Kraft is Scrooge or anything, but I'm offering an 8-Track copy of the Holocaust Soundtrack to the best, 25 words or less, response to this sentence, "Bring Me the Head of Janice Kraft because ..."
