Morrison met with Bethea on Thursday and Friday before announcing his decision to allow him to play for the Gamecocks. "Ryan Bethea has been reinstated to the University of South Carolina football team. We certainly are excited about having him with us," Morrison said. The 21-year-old Columbia resident was dismissed from the team in February after being charged on Feb. 4 with possession and intent to distribute cocaine and possession of marijuana. In July 1986, Bethea was placed in the Richland County Pre-Trial Intervention program, which is available only to first-time offenders. The former Richland Northeast All-American was required to do community service work and to receive counseling while in the PTI program. Criminal charges are dropped upon successful completion of the program.
