Review 'Miss Mary' is By DAVID HALPIN Features reporter "Miss Mary," a film from Argentinian director Maria Luisa Bemberg, is set in Buenos Aires durine the 1930s and 1940s, a time of war in Europe and South America. The film combines nice location shots, a Icss-than-original story and average performances to produce a slow and eventually unsatisfying film. The film is a series of remembrances by the title character, played by Julie Christie, who arrives in Hucnos Aires to become a governess for two young girls of a rich and powerful family. "Miss Mary" tries to show how Mary's introduction into a wealthy family's lives alters both thoii world and her initial feelings toward them. At the same time, it tries to slum a deep relationship bet ween her and each of the children. The problem with the film k nmn? mI' th.< ships arc developed fully, and many of the characters and events are left in the air. The girls eventually admire Mary, hut it is not clear why. Christie's character is too weak to convince viewers she has earned the respect of yirls who ran off six prior governesses. ????b?y 4 adisson Hotel Columbia ^ H *i*r 5EPJTS }e. Unlike that film, however, it suffers from a misguided script, which can be very good at times. "Miss Mary" attempts to bring the viewer a fine story with meaningful characters, but the end feeling is only dissatisfaction. "Miss Mary" is rated R for adult situations and profanity. It is showing at the Bijou theater in l ive Points. r&-> r-Srt rSr* rin rA> c9r% r^irt rSrt r$rt rjrt ?"A"? rjf* rJS rjn r*$r> [w VW MV WW vlv vlw ?T* Jiw JIv JIv vlv WW VIV wlv vjv AEET-BY-PHOINE | it's how you * ;et people in the $ sc midlands * 97G-2235 o j " J call 21 lloursinay v # Fun, Easy & It Works! % l'lus Tolls Per Call Will Appear On 4^* Your Southern Hell Hill r?r> r$s> rif% *JJv# */Jv %JJv *JJv vjv wjv wjv vjv JJL wjv JJv ?^V MV wjv VJV wjv Don't Ask Questions Answer them as a l I n (orni')i i<t>i A rlniSiilcf AII1V/I III CI 11 V/11 / 1 VI 111IUIDI 1 CllWl pidly expanding profession offering challenge, [ind advancement to those interested in a career ? business and medicine.
