Business 4 Wednesday, February 26, 1986 Career Ce By MARIA FRATUS Business editor Before blowing another job interview, take a look at what employers see by watching a videotape of yourself in an actual interview. Videotapes of students in mock interviews with professional staff members and outside recruiters arc made at the USC Career Center so students can see how they perform and handle stress, according to Larry Salters of the Career Planning center. The interviews last 15 minutes and are conducted like typical interviews, except students see themselves on a television monitor that lets them know they are on tape, Salters said. Daniel Kerley, an accounting senior who participated in an interview with a recruiter from Electronic Data Svstemc caiH thp interviews are very well planned. "She made me feel comfortable with the introduction and shaking my hand," he said. "Then we had a cordial chat to loosen things up." The interviewer also concentrates on "key questions," or the standard questions that employers ask, such as what the student thinks are his strengths and weaknesses and what his long-range goals arc, Salters said. "The purpose of the questioning is to think about what they will be asked in a real interview," Salters said. "She asked difficult questions pertaining to leadership, relocation and salary. You could tell they had a certain criteria," Kerley said.
