"We hope to increase the appreciation, or at least acceptance, of cultural diversity," Johnson said. "When I was hired in August 1985, I was told one of my responsibilities would be to desensitize the university to racial and cultural diversity," said Johnson, also co-sponsor of the program. "We wanted some tangible results from Leadership for Life week," said Debbie Ritter, leadership and health enrichment coordinator. According to Johnson, the students first conducted excercises to become aware of their own feelings as they related to racial and cultural issues. The group soon established its name and began training for cultural workshops. Such workshops have been conducted across campus by Johnson. "We are ready to see our first cadre of students to facilitate racial and cultural workshops," Johnson said. Workshops will cater to residence hall programs, greek programs or any group who requests them.
