Guadalcanal Diary's 45-minutc set consisted mostly of guitarrock dance numbers from their debut album, Walking in the Shadow of (he Big Man, along with a few new songs. Unfortunately, it looked more like a job than a pleasure. Each band member seemed to be playing as an individual, not as a whole. Bass player Rhett Crowe shook U? They had little eye contact with one another and didn't answer an encore call. After an intermission to allow the crew to switch equipment, Let's Active took the stage. They lived up to their name, being more responsive and reactive with the audience throughout their 80-minute, two-encore set. Founding band members Mitch Easter and Fayc Hunter traded off lead vocals throughout their set. They wcaved an interesting, melodic pattern of dance music. The audience couldn't help but obligatorily dance, even if some were unfamiliar with the music. Hunter played a mean bass. Interim drummer Rob Ladd was a blurry array of flying arms, sticks and blond hair, and he kept a good, hard beat throughout the show. Angie Carlson played very little keyboards, concentrating on rhythm and acoustic guitars instead. Their set consisted of material from their last two albums, Afoot and Cypress. They also played a few numbers from their forthcoming album. They joked, bounced around the stage and switched instruments. Mitch Easter. Let's Active's lead singer, threw in a surprise cover of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love." The lack of keyboards, especially apparent on their new songs, may suggest a harderedged, guitar-oriented sound for the band. Indeed, Mitch's guitar was at the forefront of the show.
