"In the past, students had to vote (at an assigned polling place) or not vote at all, and it was a one-day opportunity," he said. "This year for the first time students can vote at any location and can vote cither on Monday or Tuesday, so they have increased accessibility." The election was expanded to two days, Monday and Tuesday to catch people who aren't on campus each day of the week, said Sen. Jay Hope, Communication Committee chairman. ANOTHER POSSIBLE reason for an easier choice is fewer candidates to choose from. Some districts have no candidates, others have fewer candidates than seats while still others have only one candidate running for a single seat. Scats with no candidates will be filled with students appointed by the current Senate, according it) Election commissioner Eric Eppes. ium> -?iuv.i uwii ill b.iiiiv uuiy one candidate appears on the ballot, students still have a choice. Any necessary run-offs will be held March 4. However, there may be fewer run-offs this year, as senators will be elected by plurality instead of majority "to eliminate run-offs, which arc costly and a mess," Eppcs said. nm nana 1 race, and I hope thai the two-day election \ will increase the voter turn-out." i VOTING WILl. take place Feb. 25 and^ j from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobbies of the I Russell House, the B.A. Building, the Law Center and Bates West.
