Electing your senator will be easier this
year, with more days to vote and a choice of
polling places, Student Government adviser
Rob Chiles said.
"In the past, students had to vote (at an
assigned polling place) or not vote at all, and
it was a one-day opportunity," he said.
"This year for the first time students can
vote at any location and can vote cither on
Monday or Tuesday, so they have increased
accessibility."
The election was expanded to two days,
Monday and Tuesday to catch people who
aren't on campus each day of the week, said
Sen. Jay Hope, Communication Committee
chairman.
ANOTHER POSSIBLE reason for an
easier choice is fewer candidates to choose
from. Some districts have no candidates,
others have fewer candidates than seats while
still others have only one candidate running
for a single seat.
Scats with no candidates will be filled with
students appointed by the current Senate, according
it) Election commissioner Eric
Eppes.

Kelvin Stroble, a business administration
major from Spartanburg, said, "I believe
that it's time that the students of USC have a
president committed to them, and committed
to speaking on their issues, whatever they
may be."
"I KKKL my record as a student leader has
proven that I am committed to doing this,"
Stroble said.

"If there arc more write-in votes for someone
else, they'll win, or there may be a
run-off (between the candidates and the
write-in choice), he said. "This is a pretty
good motivation to vote."
HOPE EXPRESSED disappointment in
ne low turnout ot candidates. "I hope this
isn't an indication of apathy because Student
Government has really improved. This is one
of the top jobs a student could have as far as
respect and prestige." ^ (
Senators must be full-time students and
arc not paid, although they may receive
preferred tickets to athletic events, according
to Hope.
The new, easier voting procedures are: go
to a votino Jahlr At fhi* BA hnilHino Dnct?n
House, Law Center or Bates with a valid student
l.D. in hand and vote.
Not all students will be limited to one vote,
"if your dorm has seven scats, you get as
many votes as there are scats, so you have a
chance to vote for all of the senators (tlw I
will represent you)," Eppcs said.
Any necessary run-offs will be held March
4. However, there may be fewer run-offs this
year, as senators will be elected by plurality
instead of majority "to eliminate run-offs,
which arc costly and a mess," Eppcs said.
