South Carolina, 2-0 after a 79-68 victory over Marylandbased Tow son State Saturday, will meet the 4-0 Bulldogs of The Citadel. "The Citadel is one of the best shooting teams I've seen in a while," USC head coach Bill Foster said. "And Regan Truesdale is an uncanny shooter." TRUESDALE, A 6-4 senior guard-forward, led the Southern Conference in scoring last year for the Bulldogs, averaging 22 points per game. USC was outscored 14-2 in those five minutes. "We really got sloppy with the ball there in the second half," Foster said. 4Our defense wasn't nearly as effective...and they were able to shoot much better." BUT THE first half for Carolina was a different story, all hills. After scoring the first five points of the night, the Gamecocks led by as much as 17 points in the half, which ended USC 43, State 28. "I thought in the beginning we played well. Things came very easy to us," Foster said. The beginning of the second half, however, was all Towson State. After shooting only 38 percent from the floor in the first half, the Tigers improved to 59 percent in the second. Tiger head coach Terry Truax was pleased with his team's second half effort. But after a USC time-out with 12:02 remaining and a baseline layup by 6-6 junior forward Linwood Moye, three points was the closest State was to come to catching Carolina. "I thought we recovered well from the ''ne out," Foster said. "Moye and (Michael) Foster made some key baskets that really helped us coming down the stretch."
