I Inliff inn P nfn ni U|jiii hisy uai a aiuum u| By Jerry Hudson Need something uplifting to help you pull through the firs few weeks of the semester? Try the sugary hopefulness o Irene Cara's "What a Feelin'" album. Not only does it give a rather rose-colored view of what i possible, it fights off complete sappiness by providing realisti street sense in some songs. Cara, the young actress/singer who recently rose to fam because of the title cut of this album, which was the them song from the popular movie "Flashdance," seems to hav lost none of the youthful optimism that can be seen in he earlier work in the movie version of "Fame" and her first sol album, "Anyone Can See." YET, WITH all of this enthusiasm, there's an undercuttin feeling of a street sense in the songs that give them realisrr Cara seems to be able to sustain a type of New York innocenc throughout her work. "What a Feelin"' displays more of Cara's optimism tha street sense. The title cut's bouncy melody and enthusiasti ryhthm compliment the lyrics to convey the message th; maybe you really can do it all. "Keep On" is a second song that, while admitting th; things are rough and the world is in rather bad shape, assuri that there is still hope. Keep on Believing in our world. Together with our hope There's nothing we can't build. i i/? - Seep on Knowing iriui n s ngm. Sharing with our brothers, We can see our light shine. What may be the album's best song is "The Dream," tl theme song from the movie "D.C. Cab." This song continu the album's naive message by insisting that all anyone must ( to succeed is to never give up on their dreams. ALSO, THIS song has a realistic undercut that says you w fail part of the time. You gave me nothing but misery; at I've found so much more. es You used me oh so helplessly. Don 7 want your sympathy. Three other songs support the image of Cara as a worldly woman, but these songs aren't as effective as the other songs on the album. IN ADDITION to the other songs, the album contains two slow love songs that are well done and meaningful. "You Were Meant for Me" is especially effective with it's combinatie tion of intelligence and innocence. es While this album could easilv be too naive and unrealistic io for many people, it certainly is uplifting and enjoyable. Although weaker than the earlier solo album, which received very little attention, this album will be satisfying to most of ill Cara's fans even if for no other reason than it has given this talented performer more exposure than any of her earlier work. iccause'of her wickedly will be shown at 2:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Feb. 9 and 10, and at 11:30 p.m. Feb. won the Academy 11. >icture of 1940, sealing rcision to remain in - VERA MILES repeats her role as Lila Crane, sister cf the dead Marion ' a thriller that brings Crane, who died in what is undoubted> of "Psycho" back to ly the most famous movie sequence of i in their original roles, all time ? the shocking shower scene, ' / flwB\ ; tyj^Bt^fc^BIBHBB WfeBdjwHHH^HB Wk y WI^-wg^JBHBSffliSBBflBBiHBB^^B^BBKBtfeB^Bm^Y V ^^WMEcf1^ "^%k! imml.
