"To win we will have to play well defensively, and we also must maintain our poise and take advantage of our scoring opportunities." "We're getting everybody to where they're supposed to be," said junior linebacker Paul Vogel, "and that's what we'll have to do against Florida State. Nicknames like the 'Fire Ant Defense' just get us pumped up even more. We are at the point where we should be able to play with anybody." USC middle linebacker Mike Durrah, who added seven tackles in the N.C. State game to bring his season total to 128, said he respected Florida State. "I THINK it's going to be a really tough game. Florida State has a very explosive offense, and a very good offensive line. They have a good quarterback and an excellent runningback. I think the key to the game will be whether the defense can stop their explosive offense," he said. Continued from page 10 Durran?: (James) Sumter, (James) Seawright, and myself. "We were all playing the same position and we were stacked behind eaehother, so nobody could excell. When the new coaches came in this year we changed to a 4-3 defense with three linebackers, which allowed more of us on the field at the same time." Bowden said he has not made any drastic changes in preparing his team for Carolina. He is, however, aware of USC's defense, which he said is "very impressive and confusing." "The main thing we have to worry about is the way they play with emotion," he said. Bowden said the game win be won oy Dig plays. "Their defense plays too tough for us to score high," he said. BOWDEN IS in his eighth season with the Seminoles, in which he has compiled a 64-25 record. He is 2-0 against South Carolina. Morrison coached 10 years prior to coming to USC (seven at University of TennesseeChattanooga and three at New Mexico). He compiled a 66-46-5 mark and a 59.8 winning percentage.
