Gamecock midfieli plays key role for By Mike Hermann Senior soccer player David Burr plays a key part in the team's success by servng as its playmaker, according to Coach Mark Berson. The playmaker role is one Burr has played well for the past three years, Berson said. Last year Burr finished the season tied for the individual career assists record of i4, neiu oy uavia winstead. With three assists this year, Burr's total of 17 leaves him the sole holder of the record. Burr has made the final pool of 25 players for the U.S. Olympic soccer team, along with teammate David Goodchild. Players were chosen from four regional teams that competed in the summer Sports Festival in late July. Burr describes himself as a control player. As midfielder, he attempts to control the flow and pace of the game. "Dominance in the midfield is important. The club trains about 40 people per semester, which entitles all jumpers to membership in the United States Parachute Association.
