USC's Chris Heidelberger scored the only goal of the game with about 20 minutes left in the second half on an assist from David Burr. It was Heidelberger's second goal of the season. The game was the first shutout of the season for the Gamecocks. Sophomore Glen Thomnson was credited with the shutout but was heavily aided by the whole USC team as they outshot their opponents 29-5. "Despite the score, I was very pleased with our play," USC coach Mark Berson said. "We are starting to regain our form, and not a minute too soon with Alabama A & M next week."
