^sports * > me bolt coach nam Columbia Drofes Bobby Foster, Carolina golf coach for the past five years, was named assistant athletic director for non-revenue sports this past week. Foster's new responsibilities include supervising the day-to-day operations of all intercollegiate sports except football and men's basketball. Foster succeeds Ron Dickerson, who resigned June 21 to accept a football coaching position at the University of Colorado. Foster had coached the men s goit team for the past five years and the women's team since it began two years ago. A native of Columbia, Foster is a former letterman on the Carolina golf team. He served as head golf pro at the Spring Valley and Wildewood country clubs in the Columbia area and serves on the board of trustees of the Central South Carolina Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Foster will continue to coach the men's team, while Jeff Howell, the pro at Columbia's Woodbranch Country Club, will coach the women's team. Howell will be assisted by Woodbranch assistant pro Chip Wollc Howell, 35, is a native of Laurinburg, N.C. and was captain of Pembroke State University's golf team from 1964-68.
