Bobby Foster, Carolina golf coach for the
past five years, was named assistant
athletic director for non-revenue sports this
past week.
Foster's new responsibilities include
supervising the day-to-day operations of all
intercollegiate sports except football and
men's basketball.
Foster succeeds Ron Dickerson, who
resigned June 21 to accept a football
coaching position at the University of
Colorado.
Foster had coached the men s goit team
for the past five years and the women's
team since it began two years ago.
"I am very excited about the position and
the opportunity to work for the betterment
of Carolina athletics and feel a sincere
obligation to do the very best job possible on
behalf of our athletes, coaches and sup^^hers,

A native of Columbia, Foster is a former
letterman on the Carolina golf team. He
served as head golf pro at the Spring Valley
and Wildewood country clubs in the
Columbia area and serves on the board
of trustees of the Central South Carolina
Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society.
Foster will continue to coach the men's
team, while Jeff Howell, the pro at
Columbia's Woodbranch Country Club, will
coach the women's team. Howell will be
assisted by Woodbranch assistant pro Chip
Wollc
Howell, 35, is a native of Laurinburg, N.C.
and was captain of Pembroke State
University's golf team from 1964-68. He has
been a professional golfer since 1972 and is a
Class A member of the Professional Golfers'
