"People are just now getting on to rross-spx relationshiD study.'" Although platonic relationships have been important to our society for years, psychologists have only recently come up with effective ways to study the subject. Davis said the questionnaire concerning relationships in which students participated in 1980 was only developed five to coupn ufiars a an * v" J " "O" Davis has been studying the similarities and differences between friendships and romantic love and also the problems that arise in male-female friendship relationships. Romantic love relationships demand more support and understanding than simple male-female friendships. According to Davis we expect a lover to give us his utmost support, whether it be encouragement or approval. But in platonic relationships the partner doesn't feel as betrayed if the other does not give nim his whole-hearted support. The romantic love relationship must have the element of fascination, the preoccupation with another person. Davis said over the past ten years, the average age for marriage has been postponed two to three years.
