ARA Contract Si ;* By TOM COYNE News Editor USC's dining contract is open and according to Richard Wertz, vice-president of Residential Life the new contract ol.n..U II ! anuuiu uc diniuuiict'u uy someume in laie Marcn. Wertz said the process is long and involved with all the bids expected. The selection process is also prolonged because of the length of the proposals which often exceeds 100 pages. The bids are sent to the state first which reviews the proposals and sends the acceptable bids to the university. Wertz said this is to eliminate the little companies which can % not handle the job. Wertz said the university is not necessarily looking for the low bid but the best service at the most economical price. "The low bid has a tendency to be a disaster," Wertz said. "We're looking for a service that can be creative ? more than meat and Dotatoes ? while nrovidintf for all thp npwic nf the university." Wertz said the university expects food to be served in 11 places on campus and it would have to meet the quality control standards of the state which includes such things as Live off-campu VVII I UlUglll III I < x MttWRt P* 5&: If you live off-campus, jggf; -m If;' you may need a liftle help, j f Whether it's finding an | C apartment/ locating a babysitter, or simply tinding your way around town. Wertz said it is possible for a company to make in the area of $3 million in gross sales, and the amount of profit depends upon how efficient the service is and how well they are managed. The only concern to the university as to the profit made by the company is the management fee the university recoups at the end of the fiscal year. The management fee is an j agreed upon amount which the service turns over to the university which in turn is used for upkeep of the facilities. ' Wertz said before the current budget cut, money previously set aside or the management fee had been , planned for renovation of the Russell House cafeteria. | ttenovation would have begun in the summer but because of the cuts it could be delayed. Wertz said the plans are definitely going to stay on the books. The contract the university accepts will probably be similar to the one the university now has with AHA services, 1 .?*J k a jam.
