Jim Carlen was fired as head football coach and athleti director. Robert Marcum. University of Kansas athleti director for the past three years was named to fill the sam post here. The native of Huntington, West Va. became athleti director at Iowa State University in 1971. He came to Carolina in 1975 afte: spending four years at Georgia Tech, two seasons at Wes Virginia, five years at Texas Tech and two years at th< Virginia Military Institute.
