The USC Chorus and University Orchestra will present a Christmas concert Dec. 11 at Centennial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on Laurel Street. Under the direction of Dr. Arpad Darazs. the Carolina Chorus will perform Schubert's "Mass in G" with Fredna Lee, Randy Ferguson and James Ford as featured soloists. The University Orchestra Student Given Federal Stipend Wilma Singleton, a graduate student in the College of Social Work, has received a federal traineeship stipend in the area of child welfare. Wilma Singleton is one of three USC recipients of the stipend, which includes tuition and an additional $2,400 annually for other expenses. Singleton said she wants a master's degree in social work because she has "always been interested in the social sciences." Social work is one of the few areas in the social sciences where one \,aii gCl CAICII5IVC practical experience, she said. Singleton added that she enjoys her work at USC. In addition to taking 15 graduate credits, she is doing field service work twice a week at Charleston's Department of Social Services in the protective services treatment unit for children. Although the area of family services covers a wide range of human needs, she particularly enjoys working with the clients, "though it takes a lot out of you sometimes." A National Merit Scholarship winner Singleton attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her bachelor's degree in political science in 1977. Singleton also has experience as a caseworker in economic services with the Department of Social Services in Florence.
