Editorial m Smart's Housing Po TO THE EDITOR: ( After reading an October 15th letter to the editor by r Michael Moran entitled "Smarts Policies called Unwise," I p cannot merely sit back and allow a misguided, irresponsible c student to make unjust and uncalled for remarks. c I Tk^i WI / iL 1 1 naviiig uveu ?i naies nuuse iur uiree years, una uavuig f been dorm president last year, I feel a responsibility to point r out that his assessments of Jim Smart's actions are entirely untrue. I have worked closely with Jim Smart over the past two years and have found that he has been one of the most t cooperative administrators with whom I have had the 1 pleasure of being associated. His remarks concerning Jim t Smart's "negTgence in choosing not to deal with the \ situation'' should be turned around to focus on himself. I have < learned that he has never so much as contacted either Jim 1 Smart, his hall advisor, or his dorm government about the 1 hflll nnrtv Oiiirlplinpc hofnra mnlrincf Hie nhiHich -" v aatuniti^ auu viUAUiOii assessments. \ AS FOR his accusations, he might be surprised to know that it is the university's alcohol policies which establish ] dorm party guidelines. I think it is quite fair to say it is his behavior that should be srmed "infantile at best," not Jim Smart's. Perhaps one day, if and when he ever grows up, he ? will be confronted with such a situation involving his own children as accident victims. I suggest Mr. Moran should try and get involved in a constructive effort with his dorm staff and government to help find a happy medium rather than taking cheap shots at people who don't deserve them. Jim Smart and Residential Life Services are here to benefit the students and they do all that they can to make our lives on campus a little easier. RATHER than "going off campus to search for a social life," maybe Mr. Moran should spend some time in his dorm on the weekends writing letters of apology to those he has unjustly criticized.
