A distinguished professorship and a good location for his family made USC an offer he couldn't refuse. "Besides, it's a hell of a lot more fun writing from the South," Emerson said. He views South Carolina as an intriguing state with a tremendous amount of story matter. "The state is absolutely unique," Emerson said.
