Entertainment Eahor The arrival of Foghat and the Outlaws Sunday night brought a combination of British-and country-flavored rock 'n' roll to the Carolina Coliseum, both characterized by a heavy emphasis on lead guitar work and high energy. The cool, crisp Sunday evening gave little indication as to how hot things were about to get inside the coliseum. The opening act, The Johnny Van ZantBand, like the bands to follow, was anything but mellow, and they managed to warm the crowd up with several tunes from their recently released album, "No More Dirty HoqIc " In nmirlnHino fhnir set, the band played an electrified version of Dixie. When Van Zant brought out the rebel flag, much of the crowd jumped to their feet, giving Van Zant's band a hearty ovation. After a short equipment change, the lights dimmed and Foghat stormed the staee. oDenine with the rocking tune "Stone Blue." Foghat concluded with the title track to "Fool For The C City" and 44Slow Ride," t which they built up slowly, L and concluded at a feverish c pitch. li All in all.Foghat was well- r received and except for the v laci mat tne guitar v sometimes overwhelmed t everything else on stage, including the vocals, it was a good set. s Speaking of guitars, the ? Outlaws then took the stage, and from the start it seemed the night would be an endless duel between Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones.
