The arrival of Foghat and
the Outlaws Sunday night
brought a combination of
British-and country-flavored
rock 'n' roll to the Carolina
Coliseum, both characterized
by a heavy emphasis
on lead guitar work and high
energy.
The cool, crisp Sunday
evening gave little indication
as to how hot things were
about to get inside the
coliseum. The opening act,
The Johnny Van ZantBand,
like the bands to follow, was
anything but mellow, and
they managed to warm the
crowd up with several tunes
from their recently released
album, "No More Dirty
HoqIc " In nmirlnHino fhnir
set, the band played an
electrified version of Dixie.
When Van Zant brought out
the rebel flag, much of the
crowd jumped to their feet,
giving Van Zant's band a
hearty ovation.
After a short equipment
change, the lights dimmed
and Foghat stormed the
staee. oDenine with the
rocking tune "Stone Blue."
They followed with three
more high energy songs

sometimes overwhelmed t
everything else on stage,
including the vocals, it was a
good set. s

Outlaws then took the stage,
and from the start it seemed
the night would be an endless
duel between Hughie
Thomasson and Billy Jones.
