Carlen1 By John Swift Staff Writer Carolina football Coach Jim Carlen warned his team all week long that Saturday night's game against the Duke Blue Devils would not be an automatic victory. By the end of the contest, Carlen the coach proved also to be Carlen the prophet. While his squad held on for a 20-7 victory, the game was up for grabs until late in the final quarter. Carlen's concern with Duke may have stemmed from two unbelievable comebacks that the Blue Devils had made against his teams in the past. "We didn't play very sharp tonight. Everything went wrong, but we won and that's the sign of a good football team," he said. Although the Carolina offense racked up 476 yards, the Gamecocks got only two touchdowns. "We moved the football, but turned it over three times ? two times when we had a chance to score," Carlen said.
