Lady Wart Lip: By Jim Corbett Staff Writer Women's Intramural basketball heads into its final week of play on Monday. Over 100 girls started the season on eighteen different teams in quest of the championship. Here is a look at the five teams that have distinguished themselves during the first three weeks of play, making up the Gamecock top five. LADY WAKT LIPS ? The defending champions return looking for another undefeated season. The LWL passed an early test in their first game of the season, defeating AFRO 46-39 in a rematch of last year's final. All Star guard Jan Reece returns to run the offense, while forward Carol Carter provides points and rebounding ina * ?.? ii? * ?i- ' * oivic;. f\ mn team, me t^auy wan L.ips used tneir height to their advantage in defeating a tough Physical Education Club 41-32. Other victories include a big win over Bates West and a forfeit from Capstone. Six players return from last year's squad, which may give the LWL an advantage once the playoffs roll around. Team work is essential according to Reece. Experience, cohesiveness and depth make Reece confident in saying "We'll go all the way." JETSONS ? This newly formed independent team consists mainly of Carolina softball players. Though lacking height, the Jetsons make up for it with their ouickness Peaturinp a rnn nnH onn nffonco K.. i -J ...D V< - M>a Miiva ^un U11V/UOV. This potent offense has been impressive in their two victories; 60-29 over South Tower and 65-30 over South Building. Depth is a key for the Jetsons, who can substitute their ten players freely. "We definitely have a shot at the playoffs," says Saunders. Don't be surprised if the Jetsons fly all the way to the championship. 1,700 tickets available The athletic department wu, place 1,700 tickets to the Nov. 22 football game at Clemson on sale Monday, Oct. 20, at the Carolina Coliseum box office. SPECTATORS WHO throw objects from the top rows at Williams-Brice Stadium onto automobiles parked next to the stadium are causing a problem at University of South Carolina football games, according to Dr. John T. Moore, assistant athletic director. "Soft drinks, cigarettes and other objects thrown from me sianas nave caused damage to a number of cars," Moore said. "We urge all spectators who sit on the top rows not to throw anything over the back of the stadium. If the problem continues, we will have to take security measure to stop it." f X< Kvi r? 11 5 J-UjfJ i/uoaciK/uu AFRO ? The 1979 finalist sports a 4-1 record this season. Second year players forward Minny Parker and Rosalyn Peterson provide leadership and scoring, while newcomer Henriette White runs the offense with accurate passes. This running team will count on a deep bench and good shooting on the fast break to contend for the championship. "Anybody on the bench can play or start," said Parker. AFRO will be looking forward to a possible rematch against the Lady Wart Lips, but are confident of winning it all. An explosive offense could be AFRO's main assett, as evidenced by their lopsided wins over Tri-Delta (65-8) and uapsione were very connaeni wen win me championship" delcared Parker. PEM CLUB ?
