Lady Wart Lip:
By Jim Corbett
Staff Writer
Women's Intramural basketball heads into its final week
of play on Monday. Over 100 girls started the season on
eighteen different teams in quest of the championship.
Here is a look at the five teams that have distinguished
themselves during the first three weeks of play, making up
the Gamecock top five.
LADY WAKT LIPS ? The defending champions return
looking for another undefeated season. The LWL passed an
early test in their first game of the season, defeating AFRO
46-39 in a rematch of last year's final.
All Star guard Jan Reece returns to run the offense, while
forward Carol Carter provides points and rebounding ina

their advantage in defeating a tough Physical Education
Club 41-32. Other victories include a big win over Bates
West and a forfeit from Capstone.
Six players return from last year's squad, which may
give the LWL an advantage once the playoffs roll around.
Team work is essential according to Reece. Experience,
cohesiveness and depth make Reece confident in saying
"We'll go all the way."
JETSONS ? This newly formed independent team
consists mainly of Carolina softball players. Though
lacking height, the Jetsons make up for it with their

Chandler, Cindy Wallace and Laurie Jones, the Jetsons rely
on accurate outside shooting to win.
"We just run other teams into the ground," says team
member Linnea Saunders. This potent offense has been
impressive in their two victories; 60-29 over South Tower
and 65-30 over South Building.
Depth is a key for the Jetsons, who can substitute their
ten players freely. "We definitely have a shot at the
playoffs," says Saunders. Don't be surprised if the Jetsons
fly all the way to the championship.

SPECTATORS WHO throw objects from the top rows at
Williams-Brice Stadium onto automobiles parked next to
the stadium are causing a problem at University of South
Carolina football games, according to Dr. John T. Moore,
assistant athletic director.
"Soft drinks, cigarettes and other objects thrown from
me sianas nave caused damage to a number of cars,"
Moore said. "We urge all spectators who sit on the top rows
not to throw anything over the back of the stadium. If the
problem continues, we will have to take security measure
to stop it."

AFRO ? The 1979 finalist sports a 4-1 record this season.
Second year players forward Minny Parker and Rosalyn
Peterson provide leadership and scoring, while newcomer
Henriette White runs the offense with accurate passes.
This running team will count on a deep bench and good
shooting on the fast break to contend for the championship.
"Anybody on the bench can play or start," said Parker.
AFRO will be looking forward to a possible rematch
against the Lady Wart Lips, but are confident of winning it
all. An explosive offense could be AFRO's main assett, as
evidenced by their lopsided wins over Tri-Delta (65-8) and
uapsione were very connaeni wen win me
championship" delcared Parker.
PEM CLUB ? The Physical Education Club looms as a
championship contender. Four starters return from last
year, giving PEM experience which may come in handy in
the playoffs.

loss to the LWL, as they rolled up a ten point halftime lead
before losing. Forward Lisa Nichols leads in the scoring
department, while Robin Barnett will guide the offense.
PEM claimed victories over Bates West and Alpha Delta
Pi.
PEM members are confident of their success. "I'm sure
we'll get to the playoffs," said Nicols, "If all goes well, we
could place on top."
McCHNTOCK ? Betty Zeigler and Betty Cirbitt return
from last year to lead the team. McClintock relies on good
iefense and accurate inside shooting to win.

defeat South Building 22-19, despite being penalized ten
points at the outset for being late.
Lack of depth is a problem, with only a basic starting five
and few reserves. This doesn't stop Corbitt from being
optimistic. "I hope we're going to make it to the playoffs,
and maybe win the championship" Corbitt said.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Bates House owns a 2-0 record, including a 38-9 whipping
of Tri-Delta. Bates also got by Capstone 32-22. Look for
them to make things interesting come playoff time.
Kappa Delta defeated arch-rival Chi Omega to raise their ,
record to 3-1 and raise their hopes for playoffs. Other victories
include a 13-11 decision over South Tower and 26-12
victory over South Building.

1) LADY WART UPS
2) THE JETSONS
3) AFRO
4) PEM CLUB
