If you are Larry Manter, you quickly grab your camera and catch the expressions of awe, curiosity, and disbelief. According to Manter, "By sleeping in trains and youth hostels we were able to maintain a $5.00 per day budget. Food expenses were kept to a minimum by patronizing local markets and by sticking to a mostly bread, cheese, and fruit diet." The holidays were well spent with the gracious Japanese, whose hospitality made a potentially confusing country most interesting. Traveling further into the Orient, they flew on to Hong Kong and Singapore, and several weeks up the Malaysian peninsula brought them to upper Thailand. Visits to several hillside villages provided a refreshing change to the pollution and noise of crowded Bangkok. The slides of the villagers were quite beautiful, revealing often sad, but always close-knit family situations. Continuing westward, they flew on to a week in once British Burma, and onward to India, where living and traveling are incredibly cheap. "We found we could live like kings on just $3.00 a day," Manter said. frIE I ?jg|| DELIVERY I ^jfcjy 254-8800 1 I PROBLEM PREGNANCY NEED HELP? Columbia 1 254-7817 Charleston 722-8318 HIP M. A.
