Terrace, Marion St., jnces, Social Work, Librarianship: es ry majors PE, Pharmacay, Public Health, William Stewart William Stewart bases his campaign for SG presidency on one issue-communication between the student body and SG-and has a definite idea about how to improve it. Stewart proposes a system which would involve the use of computer cards with numbers printed on them. Each number would represent an issue or problem confronting student government. Questions would be asked of the student body through the news media. They would be able to respond via computer cards. "A very important advantage to this kind of system is that it provides the decisionmakers with all of the anrf pvnpripnpo (nf the student body)," Stewart said. He said his system would let students become part of the government. Student apathy would "kind of go away," as the students found out about problems and action being taken by SG, Stewart said, the system would bring "unity and new hope," he said. There is a need "to overcome the barriers of comunication and this is the only way I can think of," Stewart said. "My main view of the job of president is communication and I would avoid tasks which would stifle this." A law student, Stewart holds L an anthropology degree. BMBBI j' HI ri \ \ mi IT? V ... A i r <K ^ ;iaaM elections > Robert Sullivan Robert Sullivan says SG is an organization which, "totally affects the university," and would be more effective if increased student interest was nmsont "SG affects students a lot," Sullivan said. "I would like to see it grow larger, and I would like to see students have more faith (in SG)." "SG needs to get back into the students' hands." Sullivan wants to put, "more spunk in committees, to get the committeese more involved, and let them work for the students." A good idea, he says, would be to print and pass out senate bills to inform senators and students of the activities of SG. Sullivan advocates implementing a "high-school weekend" where prospective USG students could come for a weekend and explore and consider tho The candidate says that as a result of being a student j senator, "I know how things ! are run, I'm competent and capable of doing the job." "Students have a miscnn ception of SG. They think it's a lot of oddballs down there playing games."
