Carlen concerned with finding personnel in spring practice After two weeks of spring practice and several scrimmages, head coach Jim Carlen has one task with his Carolina football squad. "We're still trying to put the right personnel in the right positions," Carlen said. "We aren't concerned with play selection or execution. We just want to find who we have to play and where they'll play." Carlen will conclude practice with the annual spring game, sponsored by the Letterman's Association, Saturday night, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. Adult tickets will be $3 and students accompanied by a parent, will be admitted free of charge. Tickets for students not accompanied by a parent will be $2. "We aren't quite as far along at this time as I would like to be," Carlen said. "We've made some improvement, but I don't know exactly how much. "Two areas which are especially vital to us are center and quarterback and we have to find consistency at those two positions," he said. Those are critical areas for us." Junior Ron Bass is operating with the first unit offense at quarterback, while junior Randy Martz is the second team signal-caller. Sophomore Danny Clancy and senior Don Bobo, a converted linebacker, are competing for the regular center position. "Ron has been bothered by a slight knee strain recently, but we think he's going to be okay," Carlen said. "Randy has looked good in practice running the offense. "Our offensive line seems to be coming along well, with the exception of center and we hope to get that problem solved," he said. "We think we're in pretty good shape at guard, tackle and tight end." 3 STRAND MUSIC FAIR! /\f A A w **4> I D^^ ^ ?
