Dorms to ha BY MICKEY TRIMARCHI Of The Gamecock staff The USC Office of Resident Life has initiated the option of special interest floors in resident halls, effective fall semester 1975, according to Dean Richard Wertz of Resident- Life. Nine special interest floors have been designated for different academic subjects: French, Spanish, journalism, anthropology-sociology, business, political science, religion and education. Through this project, students are given the opportunity to study together, plan activities, meet with faculty members and carry out projects. "It is on an experimental basis," Wertz said. "The Program was very successful in other schools I've worked at -Columbia, in New York, Pennsylvania University and Penn State. I'm not quite sure how it will work here. When you go to register signify which building and floor you wish to apply for," Wertz sai d. The following special interest floors are planned for this fall: -15th floor South Tower will be reserved for French majors. -14th floor Capstone will be reserved for Spanish majors. -Third floor Wade Hampton will be reserved for theater majors. --Ninth floor Columbia Hall will be reserved for education majors. -Fifth floor Douglas will be reserved for journalism majors. -Third floor Maxcy will be reserved for anthropology sociology majors. -Aand B wings of ninth floor Bates House w be In the mudslinging event in Sigma Chi's annual Derby Day, contestants tried to fling the most mud at those poor souls in 30 seconds. Each hall - will have special programs and projects coordinated by hall residents and professors for each major. All of the special interest floors are open to any interested student, regardless of major. "Contact with other students in the field may spark an interest with fellow students," Wertz said. "We will cluster the students together in the buildings, but we will not be limited to size. We will be able to carry out the project with as many students that sign up."
