Stadium: Message Among the new things Carolina fans will see at Williams-Brice Stadium this year, in addition to a few new players, will be two new scoreboards, - complete with message boards. The message board is on the top of the scoreboard section of the board and contains the capacity to produce 126 different messages, which will include statements such as "Fantastic," "Wow," ane "Super" when the Gamecock* make a good play. Messages can flash back and forth across the board and characters, such as the Gamecock insignia, can also be imposed on the board. The scoreboards, which cost USC $228,uuu, were installed in August and have been tested Powerhouse slate Carolina will face some of the nation's powerhouses during the next decade, but most of those games will occur after most of today's students have qualified as alumni. In addition to strong teams from the rival Atlantic Coast Con ference and the tough Southeastern Conference, Carolina will play some new powers. Notre Dame visits Columbia in 1976 and Carolina -plays con secutive road games at Southern - California and Michigan in 1980. The scoreboards were requested by Athletic Director and H1ead Coach Paul Dietzel to replace the stadium's old scoreboards, which were almost 20 years old, ac cording to an athletic department spokesman. Many professional sports stadiums have similar message boards, most in larger sizes, but Carolina's stadium is one of the few college complexes which has a message board. The messageboard is 128 lamp banks by 52 lamp banks and can be operated by three different persons, one in the athletic department and the other two from other campus depart ments. ..................................
